Insights on Sleep

The New York Times reported on a  very interesting study on happiness and wakefulness, of particular appeal to anyone with a homeopathic frame of mind.

GI Stress and Probiotics

In an interesting little study looking closely at inflammatory bowel disease mechanisms, mice were stressed and observed for their levels of stress related hormones. The hormones elevated during stress appeared to reduce the healthy gut flora and provoke inflammation of the gut lining, akin to inflammatory bowel disease.

Don’t Trust the Headline

The New York Times reported on a research article recently published and summarized as follows “In the first randomized trial to address whether people with diabetes benefit from restricting fruit, researchers found that avoiding fruit may not have benefits for those with Type 2 diabetes.”

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

Do you have a friend or family member who has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer? For most of us, the disease has touched someone close to us or in our lives. Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States in both men and women. Insomnia and Heart Failure

I didn’t sleep a wink last night after reading the latest study linking insomnia to yet another health problem, this time heart failure. If you’re ready to take on the information you can read the study here.

Easiest Roasted Chicken

Sunday afternoon and it’s sunny! Let’s spend the day outside, that sounds like a great idea – except for the chicken I was planning to cook for the evening. No problem – easiest roasted chicken is always good and takes little time to prepare.

Do I Need to Exercise?

If you received last month’s newsletter, you might have noticed a tiny sentence, tucked at the top, suggesting that exercise is not particularly useful for weight loss, a statement that had many folks scratching their heads and wondering about the role of exercise in a healthy lifestyle.
